Where did you find that?

Ok, sometimes there are things I will post about or ingredients that I will use, that you may not be able to find in your local grocery store.

This is where I will post links to some of my favorite websites.

Spices

I have a few places where I get some premium spices right online.

Penzey’s Spices

Penzey’s Spices carries some of the best spices for baking and cooking, and if you sign up for the newsletter you will get coupons and recipes!

The Spice and Tea Exchange

My husband and I went to the store in Annapolis and got some great spice mixes, including their Autumn Harvest Spice Blend which is terrific on pork, chicken, and winter squash.

Sadly, The Cape Herb & Spice Co. no longer makes the Seven Deadly Sins sugar grinders. They do sell other very tasty things and some fabulous chilis.

Groceries

While I mostly shop at the local chains or the IGA, there are a couple of places that I go to that I can find almost anywhere in the U.S.

Aldi

Back in 2009, we discovered this little grocery chain from Germany had started shops in America. We didn’t get a local Aldi until sometime in the last two years. I have one that is just about 3 minutes from my office, and if I need milk, eggs, or anything basic, I can just pop in without having to hassle with the big grocery store or the bulk of buying at the warehouse club. I’ve also found they have reasonably priced virgin coconut oil, a pretty decent gluten-free section, and even some organic and grass-fed meats and dairy. Some locations even sell alcohol!

Trader Joe’s

The closest one to me is 45 minutes away if the weather is good. I do love their selection of olive oils and balsamic vinegar, whimsically yclept as Trader Giotto’s. They also have some very good organic foods, gluten-free goods, and some damn tasty sandwich cookies.

Ok, I’m going to add one place that is not found outside of western Connecticut and part of New York: Stew Leonard’s

By far my favorite grocery store, they have a fabulous variety of fresh foods, their hot and salad bars are AMAZING, and they have tasting stations all through the store for things such as apple cider, fresh squeezed orange juice, milk, and their kettle cooked potato chips. Sadly, the closest one to me is over an hour away which is probably a good thing as I would happily spend my entire paycheck to eat all my meals there every day.

Miscellaneous happy things
